so the last minute head turning desperate eye locking and dress adjusting
has to wait longer than usual

years ago this would have been different
breaking trust that didn't really matter anyway
but you
you with the ring on your finger
your time is up
your smile is straining
your children are crying
and your supply of last year's business cards is running low
and in the dim light your eyes provide me
through the designer suit and the $200 duty free cologne
i see more of america
than i ever saw at home
